Dental anxiety and a fear of the dentist can keep you from not only maintaining a healthy smile but enjoying the many benefits of good oral health. Dr. O’Malley and the team at O’Malley Dental strive to help all patients achieve a beautiful, comfortable and healthy smile, including anyone suffering from dental anxiety.
The first step is to have a conversation, helping us understand the cause of your stress. We work with you to find the best solution for your unique needs. A thorough explanation of all aspects of the recommended dental procedure can alleviate fears and build confidence. Especially for some patients who have had a previous bad experience at the dentist. We believe strongly in the value of patient education for many reasons. We empower patients to feel in control of their oral health and knowledgeable about what will take place during a visit.
Solutions for Dental Anxiety: Sedation Options
Dr. O’Malley also offers dental sedation options for very anxious patients or those who may need multiple dental procedures. Sedation dentistry can enable you to achieve your oral health goals with minimal stress. We will discuss your medical history and work with you to choose the best option for your needs.
- Oral conscious sedation: Dr. O’Malley can prescribe an oral sedative to enable you to feel completely calm and relaxed, but responsive during your visit. An at-home dose may be recommended and oral sedatives take some time to wear off. Patients will need an escort to and from their appointment.
- Nitrous Oxide: also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is an inhaled sedation that can take effect and wear off quickly. This option enables patients to drive themselves to and from their appointment.
