Do you fear visiting the dentist? Have you been avoiding dental treatments due to dental anxiety?
Dental anxiety and a fear of the dentist can keep you from not only maintaining a healthy smile but enjoying the many benefits of good oral health. Dr. O’Malley, a simpsonville SC dentist, and the team at O’Malley Dental strive to help all patients achieve a beautiful, comfortable and healthy smile. We give extra attention to those suffering from dental anxiety.
The first step is to have a conversation, helping us understand the cause of your stress. We work with you to find the best solution for your unique needs. A thorough explanation of all aspects of the recommended dental procedure can alleviate fears and build confidence. Especially for some patients who have had a previous bad experience at the dentist. Everyone is different. Dr. O’Malley has created a worry-free atmosphere, where anyone can discuss their worries and not be judged. We understand that dental anxiety and fear of the dentist can come from many different sources. No matter the cause, we are here for you. We will never pressure you into getting treatments, and only recommend the necessary procedures to support your long-term oral health.
We believe strongly in the value of patient education for many reasons. Dr. O’Malley empowers patients to feel in control of their oral health and knowledgeable about what will take place during a visit.
Solutions for Dental Anxiety: Sedation Options
Dr. O’Malley offers dental sedation options for very anxious patients or those who may need multiple dental procedures. Sedation dentistry is a method of putting your concerns at ease with medication or chemical assistance. It can enable you to achieve your oral health goals with minimal stress. We will discuss your medical history and work with you to choose the best option for your needs. We offer two types of sedation options in our dentist office.
- Oral conscious sedation: Dr. O’Malley can prescribe an oral sedative to enable you to feel completely calm and relaxed during your visit. This method will not put you to sleep. It will relax your mind while keeping you responsive during treatment. You will be given a pill to take before your appointment. Detailed instructions can be given over the phone, or at the time of your initial appointment. Oral sedatives take some time to wear off, so you will need an escort to and from your appointment.
- Nitrous Oxide: Also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is an inhaled sedation method. It can take effect and wear off fairly quickly. Nitrous oxide is administered through a breathing mask during your dental treatment. This option enables you to drive yourself to and from your appointment.
